Personalized Blended Learning for Math
Limited Capacity seats available

As Bentley School has moved to a personalized blended learning model, she has been working to build learning guides for Junior High math that include a variety of resources to help students create their understandings and practice their skills. While she works with Junior High, the ideas she uses can be used for anyone looking to build blended learning opportunities for math students. Participants will leave with ideas for using technology in math that run from substitutution to redefinition. Please bring a device that will let you check out some of the tools as we go.

Tracking Math Progress Through Online Practice and Gamification
Limited Capacity seats available

**Unfortunately, due to technical issues beyond my control, IXL will no longer be featured in this session.  I will show case some other online math tools for engagement, scaffolding and differentiation ***

In this session I will focus on using the online math game Prodigy reporting system to track progress, provide evidence of learning and identify lapses in comprehension or trouble spots for individuals as well as whole classes.

If your students need more engagement in math, Prodigy will provide this.  Along with the fact that it is free, aligned with curriculum, provides teachers with the ability to track skills, do summative & formative assessment, and provide evidence of understanding to parents, it's all housed in the format of a game that will have your students begging for more math (I'm serious)

Please bring a device.  If you bring your class list, you can register your class during the session to be ready to play on Monday!

Using Open Data for Real-World Applications in Science, Math, and Social Studies
Limited Capacity seats available

We will explore ways to use Open Data from sources such as data.alberta.ca to teach concepts in Science, Math, and Social Studies.
For example, students can investigate biodiversity and human impact, or expenses incurred by elected and government officials.
Since most of these data were previously unavailable, this could constitute a modification or perhaps redefinition of student tasks.
Please bring a device, preferably one with a keyboard.

Daily 5 in Elementary Math
Limited Capacity seats available

Come learn how we use the Daily 5 structure in our Math classes. Daily 5 Math is a framework for structuring math time so students develop deep conceptual understanding and mathematical proficiency.

How does it work?

Students select from three or four choices, working independently toward personalized goals, while the teacher meets individual needs through whole-group and small-group instruction, as well as one-on-one conferring.
